Configuring new VLAN for a Cisco Switch

I needed a new VLAN for vCenter High Availability.

I create a new vlan number 20 and give it a name “VCenterHA”

Switch1# configure terminal
Switch1(config)# vlan 20
Switch1(config-vlan)# name VCenterHA
Switch1(config-vlan)# exit

I check that it exists

Switch1#show vlan

VLAN                  Name                       Status                   Ports
1                           default                     active                   <ports>
20                        VCenterHA             active                    <none>

I then configure the interfaces to use that vlan.

Switch1# configure terminal
Switch1(config)# interface range gigabitEthernet 0/11 – 12
Switch1(config-if-range)#switchport mode access
Switch1(config-if-range)#switchport access vlan 20
Switch1(config-if-range)#exit

The show vlan command now shows the two configured ports on vlan 20. I save the config and I’m done for now.

Switch1#copy run start
